2023–2024

First establishment of CTWG (IASMED’s former name)

Establishment of CTWG (Clinical Trial Working Group) to design Pedoman Cara Uji Klinik yang Baik (CUKB) in Indonesia which adheres to the International standards of GCP (Good Clinical Practice), in cooperation with National Agency of Drug and Food Control (NADFC) / Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM) in accordance with the Decree of the Head of Badan POM Number HK .00.06.2.02644 dated July 31, 2000.

Indonesia’s first GCP was developed

Implementation of the legal framework of clinical trial procedures by Badan POM, which was stated in the Decree of the Head of Badan POM No. 02002/SK/KBPOM dated February 28, 2001, which imposed Pedoman Cara Uji Klinik yang Baik (CUKB) in Indonesia, followed by first publication of CUKB in April 2001 and workshop for the Ethic Committees from some medical schools in Indonesia along with local auditors/inspectors in May 2001.

CTWG officially became IASMED

On September 2009, the idea of IASMED formation was brought up, and subsequently approved in a meeting on December 2009 attended by members and non-members of CTWG. IASMED Establishment Committee was then initiated by the following year, chaired by Prof. Dr. dr. Rianto Setiabudy, Sp.FK who is one of IASMED’s pioneers.

First scientific seminar conducted by IASMED

This year marks a big milestone for IASMED. Following the establishment of the organization’s new name, candidates of the first Chairman and Board members were submitted. On May 2010, IASMED Deed of Establishment was signed in Jakarta, and subsequently, an inauguration was planned to celebrate the formation. Later on the same year, IASMED then host the first scientific seminar about clinical research – an evolution that the country needed.

IASMED initiated Site Capacity Building

It takes not too long for IASMED to realize that one of the crucial factors to run clinical research and to make Indonesia a great clinical trial site is to have as much qualified sites as possible. In this year, IASMED initiated site capacity building, aiming to improve the clinical trial ecosystem by increasing the number of qualified sites. It was still a rare, untouched topic in the circumstances at that time, however, IASMED successfully lead more practitioners to share the views about the importance of having qualified study team and its management skill.

IASMED kicked off series of training

After years of conducting GCP/CUKB trainings for research practitioners, IASMED is known as the only organization in Indonesia who is able to answer the growing need for information, education, advocacy and exploration in the implementation of clinical trials in Indonesia. In 2023 to date, IASMED has conducted series of trainings for newly established Clinical Research Units in national hospitals across Indonesia as well as series of course and workshop of Applied GCP, for hospitals and other academic institutions, in cooperation with Indonesia Ministry of Health and INA-CRC (Indonesia Clinical Research Center).
