A significant step toward strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global clinical trial landscape was taken on October 15, 2025, as a site assessment was conducted at Prof. Dr. Kandou Manado General Hospital. This crucial initiative was a collaborative effort between the Indonesia Clinical Research Center/ INA-CRC (https://ina-crc.kemkes.go.id/)  and IASMED as partner.

Defining Current Capacity

The primary goal of the assessment was to generate an initial assessment report detailing the current state of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) capacity at the hospital. This report is vital for establishing a clear baseline of the hospital’s capabilities, resources, and operational readiness to conduct high-quality clinical trials.

Understanding the current infrastructure and human resources for clinical research is the essential first step,” stated an INA-CRC spokesperson. “This baseline report will serve as a roadmap for targeted development.”

Paving the Way for Increased Visibility

Once the initial assessment report is finalized, the findings will be utilized to formulate and implement the necessary steps to enhance the hospital’s research profile. This comprehensive plan is expected to cover multiple phases, including system development, capacity building and socilization.
The ultimate objective is to increase site visibility for Sponsors (pharmaceutical companies, etc.) and Contract Research Organizations (CROs), thereby attracting more national and international clinical trials to Prof. Dr. Kandou General Hospital. This move is anticipated to not only accelerate medical breakthroughs but also solidify the hospital’s reputation as a prime location for ethical and efficient clinical research in Eastern Indonesia.
